Zhakea

Lakesha Michelle Parker, writes under the name Zhakea, is a native of Newton Grove, North Carolina, and she currently resides in Raleigh. She attends North Carolina State University, where she is pursuing a degree in Spanish Education and a minor in religion and possibly journalism. She is opinion editor of the African-American campus magazine, "The Nubian Message", as well as copyeditor for the general campus magazine the "Technician".

She is the second child of a household of seven, where she states the women outrank the men. (Yea!) She also has one grown four-year-old daughter.

Her interests are many. She enjoys traveling, meeting new people, learning languages (currently teaching herself braille, latin, and swahili), writing anything that she possibly can, reading (anything that she can get her hands on, except most things dealing with science), drawing, dancing, playing the piano (even though she claims she is bad at it), and spending time with her family and friends. When not doing that, she likes to volunteer (for the community, and also on AOL), or she can be found surfing the web, or mumbling furiously about all of the many things that she has to type up.

She is currently working on collecting her poetry together for publication, as well as working on a novel (a couple of novels, actually) and a relationship book (Don't we have enough of those out there?).

Be sure to check out this sister as she continues to "rise".

Favorite quote: Always look at what you have, instead of what you don't (have). -Niki M.
