| Nikki George is an 18-year old graduating
senior attending Sheepshead Bay high school in
Brooklyn, NY. She was born in Brooklyn, but was raised
in Atlanta, Ga. She began writing poetry at 13 using
poetry as a therapy to get over her parents divorce. She says, "I
never really shared it with anyone but a teacher came
across my poetry and submitted it in the school
newspapers. I got a lot of positive feedback from that,
so from then on, I became more willing to share my
poetry publicly."
She moved back to Brooklyn when she was 16. At that time was when she first competed in a Poetry Slam; at the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe. She says, "I didn't even get past the preliminaries. After I turned 17, I competed in the KNICKS POETRY SLAM and I made it to the semifinals, and no further. I later learned about the URBAN WORD NYC and their annual Poetry Slams." |
She says, "I recently competed in the Urban Word Poetry Slam in February, I got up to the finals. I plan to make it to the Grand Slam next year. Overall, I love poetry, it is my life." Her other hobbies, include writing, reading, making films, acting, dancing (ballet), cooking, volunteering, and sleeping.
