Slave

by Trina Williams-Emigh & Gaptoothbrotha

Deep within the swell of the earth’s strata
Lie the remains of the people, who have defied matter
Their voices are echoing within your ears
Your thoughts are screaming out their fears
That you don't know
That you don't care
About their lives, which brought you here
And even though you hear them scream
You pretend that it is but a dream
Denying what it is you must do
To save the souls that live in you

The bottom of the Atlantic is where their souls reside
While you’re oblivious of the horrible way they died!
They’re crying out for revenge
Wondering why you continue in the pathetic state you’re in
How long can you ignore their plea?
Will you die on your feet or on your knees?
You’re a descendant of the strongest of the strong
A survivor of the Middle Passage and the white man’s wrongs
Restless souls screaming for you to take a stand and fight
Asking you to abandon the darkness and reach for the light
But, denying your heritage is what you do
To pacify the horrible guilt that dwells inside you
