Quality Of Life

by Trina Williams-Emigh and LaVerne Prade

I am
Who you
Aspire to be
You stand
In awe
And reverence
Of me
Because my race is the answer
To the questions that you seek
In comparison to me
You are meek
Unable to conceal your fear
Of my physicality
My strength
My wisdom
Even my humanity
I know why
You stand
In reverence
Of me
For I am the quality of life
Which you long to achieve
And this..
This is something
That I strongly believe

You question my validity
My right to exist
Or even be free
With your false philosophies
Prophesies and
Idiosyncrasies

Putting me under
A microscope
Trying to make it hard for me to cope

But one thing you forgot
My dreams you have not
'Cause my people are destined to
Rise to the top

Recapture
Recoup
And even reclaim
That which your granddaddy used
To gain his fame
You have been false from the start
Doing nothing from the heart
But promoting the hate
Until you found out it's too late…..

For I am the quality of life
Which you long to achieve
And this..
This is something
That I strongly believe
