Out of Reach

by Tameko Barnette & Trina Williams-Emigh

I'm tired of writing
in this sad simple nature
of self righteous indignation

I'm tired of marching for justice
rallying for freedom
and petitioning for peace

I'm tired of praying for change
hoping for evolution
and wishing for equanimity

I'm tired of crying for solidarity
regretting our existence
and how we've undermined God's plan

I'm tired of knowing
that it's not humanity we seek
I don't mean to preach
but surely our souls are lost....
and divinity seems out of reach

I'm tired of creating
in this pathetic atmosphere
bent on our destruction

I'm tired of protesting against war
crying for fair play
and affirming for life

I'm tired of talking about change
singing about revolution
and wanting true equality

I'm tired of begging for unity
remembering our past
and how we've ruined God's planet

I'm tired of knowing
that it's not human spirits we challenge
I'm only here to teach
but certainly we've lost our way
and harmony seems out of reach
