I Dreamt of Africa

by the Gaptoothbrotha & Trina Williams-Emigh

I dreamt of Africa
It's carpet of desert sand
And streams of the River Nile
It's blazing heat caressing my black skin
As I traveled through valleys of diamond trails
And explored caves of cultural significance
Africa's vast expanse enveloping me in it's majesty
Bewitching me with it's mystery
And seducing me with it's familiarity of home
Home...
My home...
Though I haven't crossed it's threshold
I dreamt of Africa

I dreamt of Africa
The richness of the Gold Coast
The beaches of Cape Cod
Its beauty a vivid memory in my mind
I lay in the bowl of a ship chained to my brother
Among excrement I fight off rats
I have seen my brother beaten
My women raped
I am led to the top of the ship
I struggle to walk from laying down for hours
Gathering strength I run and jump overboard
As I sink deeper into the ocean
I dreamt of Africa
My home
