Crying to be Free

by Tameko Barnette and Trina Williams-Emigh

my pain is disguised behind my eyes
it swims deep inside
and it harbors anger
hatred
and pride
and i can't let it go
nor can i abide
so to rid myself of its hold
i cry
i cry
i cry

and I use words.....they release me
cleanse my lonely ache
keep me sane
covers my wake
written to save
written to free
written to abolish and empty the pain in me

my pain is masked with an empty grin
it hides deep inside
and it becomes bitter
with anxiety
where it resides
and i can't lie
nor can i hide
so to jump off its bumpy ride
i cry
i cry
i cry

and i use the words...they free me
purify my lonesome blues
holds me close
sparks my muse
written to breathe
written to rise
written to be alive and the pain in me dies
