Pleasure and Pain

by Jacqueline P. Walker

Pleasure and Pain, walk hand in hand like lovers.
Creating hopes, then crushing dreams.
Bringing us joy, then bringing us sorrow.
Pleasure and Pain, wait side by side.
Luring their victim with happiness.
While sadness is quietly lurking around
the bend to steal our contentment and discard
  on us its grief.
Pleasure and Pain, work like a see-saw.
Lifting us up, bringing us down.
Until we can bring into harmony our pleasure and our pain.
And, bring our lives into balance.
