I am a poet,

I scribe the lives

of myself and others

I write to vent

and read to learn

lingering in the vast

solitude my mind covers

I am a poet,

it’s not a hobby

or a job

but it is a must

a part of me

that will always be

from ashes to dust

when my pen bleeds

onto the paper I possess

I melt into my own symphony

and compose away my stress

I POE it

I scribe in many Hughes

words court me in

a romantic penmanship

that last a lifetime

and keeps me well grounded

enough to poetically

pay my dues
