The Darkness of Me

by Tanisha M. John

Is the blackness of my skin
Equal the blackness of
my Soul.

Does the blackness of my
Mind,
At all make me whole.

Is my black body in direct
Proportion to that of my
World;

When you look into my
Eyes, do you see black
Pearls,

Or do you see what you
Perceive to be,

Just a little black girl.

Do you find my blackness
Mysterious?

Does my silent euphony make
you Curious?

Do you lie awake at night and
Wonder if you should take
me Serious?

Or does my nonchalantness
make you Furious?

Is the blackness of my skin
Equal to the blackness of
my Soul;

Does the darkness of me seem
to you brazen and cold?

Do you think that the Blackness
of My mind is filled with
vast empty spaces, that each
Time the clock ticks,

Another memory erases?

no.

My black body is in perfect
Ratio to my precious black
pearl.

A place not marred with
the Insanity of your
Incongruous world.
