The Book of Rules

by Tameko L. Barnette

Justice, honor, order, the pursuit of happiness,
and liberty can be obtained in abundance.
But only if we...

Compromise our values, our sense of worth,
our bodies, our mentality, and our minds.
Adhere to laws that only apply to us when
"they" want to win our votes for the next
campaign, or take our money that we worked
hard for, or make us believe that we are
worth the struggle when "they" are the ones
causing the struggle.
Suffer in silence, while "they" mobilize dis-
order, and destruction, and division, and
homicide, and genocide.
Remain uneducated, do not learn the laws,
'cause if we do, we'll understand that we
are a valuable, priceless, and precious people.
Continue the animosity amongst our brethren,
you know what I'm sayin', like "black on black
crime", and "selling dope", and "light-skin vs.
dark-skin", and "the elite vs. the ghetto", and
"old school vs. new school", and "the government
vs. the revolutionary", and "organized religion
vs. knowledge of self."
Keep buying their clothing, their liquor,
their cigarettes, their news, their lies,
and their propaganda.

So, don't get caught up in the hype,
believing the lies in the book of rules.
They'll sit around laughing at us,
while we're wasting ourselves like fools.
