Shockd has been a professional writer/educator/historian for over 25 years. During that time he has written for several newpapers and magazines across the country, including; Dallas,Texas, Metropolitan Philadelphia,Pa. and Denver Colorado.

A former resident of suburban Philadelphia, Shockd graduated from Montgomery County Community College with an Associates in Education, attended one year at Virginia State University, returned to Metro Philadelphia and received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Cheyney University, the oldest Black university/College in the United States.

Shockd is currently retired and residing in Aurora, Colorado where he assisted in the creation of Denver's Silk Entertainment Magazine - 2010-2012.
