Guilty By Means of Affiliation

by Sharel E. Gordon-Love

Linked together by association;
The crime was committed,
The verdict already predicted:
Guilty by means of affiliation.

Family, my friend, my posse, my brother,
Because of this there could be no other,
No reason or rhyme as to why I'll do the time,
No other reason but that of affiliation.

You were there, were you not?
You had your chance to shine in that spot.
You did it so you may as well say,
You're guilty and you're gonna pay.

Elimination of our link and ties,
Has placed me where our friendship binds.
We down alright; I got your back,
Never knew it would take me down a one way track.

Where's my support, my brothers, my friends?
Death took you out and so now it's the end.
Death is the penalty for a crime that was done,
A crime of affiliation, an unjust one.

The ties that bind and all of that,
Has lead me down this rugged path.
Just because of our binding association,
I'm guilty by means of affiliation.
