If Love Has No Color

by E. T. Scyffore

If love has no color

Why do eyes burn as they gaze upon my skin?
Why are there whispers as I hold out my hand

Seeking a friend?

If love has no color
Why is it that fear keeps us hidden and locked within?
We seek shelter, but there is none who will let us in.
Does the color of my skin measure the man
Contained therin?
Am I to remain hidden
Until I fit the status quo of the "Public Joe"?

If love pas no color
Why must we hide behind a cloak of pride?
Why must their ignorance be our guide?
Let us not succumb, or be content, with a shadow of lies
Know inside we die.

If love has no color

Then love your knight whose skin is burnt
By reason of genetics from birth.

If love has no color

Then to fight we must

The narrowness of their stares

And the ignorance of their hearts can not dictate
The love we have discovered from the start.

If love has no color

Why must we cry...
Knowing inside we die
