Dreams

by E. T. Scyffore

If today held all the promises of eternal awards
would tomorrow nullify its existence
by coming into view?
If happiness was predicated by the fulfillment of
dreams stored deep within
could we equate sadness as its kinsman:
by the destruction of dreams once held in high esteem?

How true are we in our estimation of life's pursuits,
and our ability to see things through?
Especially when our goals have faltered, and that which
brought us great happiness has suddenly appeared
to be not as it were;
But only an illusion meant to deter and lead us astray.
How then do we pray?

How true are we in our acceptance that Faith alone cannot
see us through?
But we must look to God to provide .... the true
vision of life's existence and meaning.
Only then shall our focus be pure and uninhibited
by the delusions that accompany our own selfish dreams
once held in high esteem.

If today held all the promises of eternal awards
would tomorrow wait patiently in the shadows
to assist only as needed-
a voice echoing to the cadence of dreams
once held in high esteem.
