A Providential Life

by Michael P. Rodriguez

Born imperfect, three months premature,
hospitalized, sick, undeveloped, weak,
frail, on life support, counted out, and written off
I've lived a providential life;

As I grew I was nurtured, cared for, caressed,
cuddled, nourished, watched, guarded, protected,
disciplined, and loved,
I've lived a providential life;

At the edge of adolescence, confused, afflicted,
distant, depressed, tormented, rejected,
disillusioned, scorned and alone,
I've lived a providential life;

Standing before you as a man, stable,
steadfast, married, instructed, informed,
advised, indoctrinated, saved, sanctified,
and filled with the Holy Ghost,
Yes, I am living a providential life.
