Guard Your Heart

by Robert L. Horton

When you give your all you lose a lot,
It’s foolish to gamble with all that you got-
Without a reserve there’s nothing to retain,
Now alone and broken hearted, and reeling from the pain.

Convinced that his tender kisses you would miss,
His smooth seductive words that you cannot resist-
Never thinking that his charm would ever fade,
But to him you’re just another woman that he played.

All you were to him was a piece of ass,
What’s not meant to last will always pass-
Remember that love and lust are not the same thing,
He never had any intentions of giving you a ring.

Life lessons are given to make you wise,
Don’t be blinded from the lust of the eyes-
Never settle, and to thine own self be true,
Next time let him earn the right to be with you!
