Femme Noire

by Sparkle Plummer

Caramel skin, Brown eyes.
Kinky hair, ample thighs.
Full lips, thin waist.
A plump booty, a natural face.
Strong willed, stubborn ways.
She's confident, set in her ways.
Love her, hate her;
She doesn't care.
She's filled with pride.
She has no fear.
Mother, daughter.
Sister friend.
She's always there;
To lend a hand.
Grandma, aunt,
Fiancé, wife.
She'll hold you down.
She's there for life.
Sometimes quick-tempered;
But that's okay.
She's struggled centuries.
She can have her way.
Held back her tears;
Concealed her heart.
Forced to smile;
Even in the dark.
She's stereotyped.
She's criticized.
She doesn't give a damn;
About those lies.
She knows her beauty.
She knows her worth.
Entitled queen
Upon her birth.
Who is this legend?
Who can she be?
She's a Black woman;
Victor of liberty.
