There he stood
A title around his waist,
A game that influenced many,
Tag. It kept his mind humble.
It gave him strength and belief,
A gift which kept him from trouble.
In exchange for early nights.
He was afraid to be a victim,
Nervous of the empty spaces
& the non-human sounds
Within his dwelling place.
As the night arrived
His heartbeat sped up,
His parents were at work.
He was well fed, but alone.
He took his key, locked up,
His safety was within a crowd.
They played a game called tag.
His will was transparent as a raindrop
He couldn’t go home, afraid to be alone.
The need for tag began.
Message: When family is not around
and are not there all the time,
your friends can comfort you
and provide security and safety
in the parent’s absence.
