The Long Road to Healin'

by Nyahbinghi

He was strong, hard, sexy and seductive
smelled like Cool Water for Men cologne
a smooth talker, softly caressing my behind
while blowing hot breath and sweet kisses down my neck
stroking the nucleus of my desire
got my panties wet, my knees weak
mind disheveled...can't think straight

(on the path of righteousness)

damn, I think I've found my eternal soul mate
but wait...confused the strangled oohs and aahs
for the key to completeness
committed the perpetuated sin of Eve

(didn't bother to read the small print)

quietly submitted to his authority, tossed my goddess aside
became absorbed in him
unknowingly, I was his concubine or rather I chose not to see
ignored the signs and desperate plea
from my tossed aside goddess
to wake up from this fairy-tale, fantasy bullshit
kissed a frog that didn't change into a prince
turns out he was a con artist

(knew I shoulda did a background check)

stole years from my life...
suddenly feel drained and empty
slightly fearful of moving on without him
but I must move on in order to heal

(still holding on to that fairy-tale shit!!)

I am not the extension of a man
I have my own purpose
move in my own stride
now, I must begin the journey
to freedom and self-love
