Suddenly Missing You

by H.L. Nichols

Suddenly,

It struck me at 2:53 AM

Oddly or shall I say strange

For lack of a better name

So I write at 3:52 AM

Because I was enlightened by the fact that

Cell phone calls

I uncovered that you were untouchable

Then text messages

Not that you were unlovable

Just unreachable not unattainable

But I wanted you in the now

Not later, not like before

Or "Let's wait a while before,"

I can't hold back anymore

I understand that patience is virtuous

But I want you right now

We should be making love

Act like you know what now is

Right now

Like two rookie cops on a hot block

Run up in it . . . they gon bust

Shatter the champagne glasses

Take another sip . . . bout to pop

As if the time on the clock stopped

Because the hands got stuck

And got it in- What the . . .

As if two tongues intwined

Begat new latin that became

The roots to future romance

Lovely Vanessa Williams in Let's Dance

And subcultures trapped in caves

To the call of the wild

The beast came out the mountains saved

Because I claimed you profoundly

Your name, I exclaimed soundly

Because you were untouchable

And today unattainable

Suddenly I found myself

Masking a part of me

Concealing my identity

Hididen within my frailty

I am missing you . . .
