A Seasoned Woman

by Nailah Abdus-Salaam

She's seasoned well
A seasoned woman;
Wise beyond her years
Has crossed many a troubled waters
And held back a stream of tears.
But, she won't succumb to defeat
Her recovery is rapid and oh so sweet.
Like a pomegranate
She resides with a hard protective shell
A fortress of armor, but she continues to wear it well.
And underneath, her feminine side dwells.
For she has a strong sense of self
Years of experience have taught her well.
She's weathered many a storms
With  patience, and she will tell;
Longevity is a blessing when accompanied by faith and virtuous deeds,
When your spirit is nurtured and you're clear on your needs.
To love yourself unconditionally
To maintain her modesty and dignity.
Continuing on with a pleasant personality.

Ripened to a good, liberated age
The proximity of time,
Lay faintly illustrated on her face.
But, she's determined to defy her bodies haste.
And not another day would she deny her voice, nor waste.
The young girl, has now vanished without a trace.
No new drama to deplete or erase.
She only mellows more in age.
What time has taken from her in youth
Has been replaced with experience
And her wisdom is proof.
She's learned to maneuver with confidence and grace.
The pleasure of resilience demonstrated on her face.
A beautiful woman; has taken the young girl's place.
This makes her a rather seasoned woman;
Joyous and easy
Evenly matched...
Skilled and confident
She's quite the great catch!
Beautiful in the bloom of age
Inspired to clear her thinking space.
So to acknowledge her efforts, and to remind
Her humility and patience
Increases the height of her climb.
Now her thoughts maybe moving faster than she can,
But, she's grateful, because She's a Seasoned Woman!
