Winter’s Hope

by Memphis Vaughan, Jr.

As the season turns from fall to winter
And new fallen snow covers our fleeting dreams
Old hope goes sowing the new ideals
Chancing to plant its wisdom upon fresh new ears

Though the icy ground belies any signs
That new growth will one day emerge
From seasons past when the leaves scattered
This wonderful cycle has repeated again and again

For all burden falls upon weary shoulders
Longing for the day the load is lifted
Yet for now, young minds must be enlightened
For with spring emerges hope from winter’s lair
