Yesterday I Cried

by Nigel Mugamu

It felt like I died
My soul just cried
Opened up and let go
My soul was temporarily on death row
I know we struggle and we strive
Just trying to keep the dream alive

Yesterday I cried
It felt like I died
Civilians dying in the midst of war
Designed to even a score
Segregation and racial abuse
Hatred with no excuse

Yesterday I cried
It felt like I died
I miss my family
I wish they were here with me
I feel so alone
Am I the only far from home?

Yesterday I cried
It felt like I died
Tears running down my cheek
Can’t breath, can’t hardly speak
I feel like I’ve lost control
I’m relying on strength buried within my soul

Yesterday I cried
It felt like I died
I can see the pain in your eyes
Bewildered you look surprised
You forget I feel it too
I know what you so through

Yesterday I cried
I felt like I died
In the distance I see victory
I see reality
This place is close to serenity
A place for you and me.
