Self Imprisonment

by M.L. Turner

I have tried to no avail
to free myself.
How can I have the key
but refuse to open the door?
I am puzzled.
It could not be any clearer
that I enjoy the pain I go through.
It doesn't add up,
why would I stay?
Maybe I need this.
Man judges reality
sometimes by
the tragedies he goes through.
To validate his existence
he must suffer.
Yes, the sweet suffering...
What could be better.
