Tomorrow is My Day

by Makalani

Hello? Excuse me?
Why did you just pass by me?
Did you not hear me call your name?
Or are you playing the role of stupidity?

Hello? Excuse me?
Why do you pay me no mind?
Is it because I have a record?
Does it matter I did some time?

Hello? Excuse me?
Why do you clutch your purse?
Do you think I'm going to rob you?
Or do your body some hurt?

Hello? Excuse me?
Why do you hold your children so tight?
Do you think because I was locked away
That I don't know wrong or right?

Did you ever stop to think
That I'm a man just like you?
Do you think because I'm free
That I'm a threat to you?

Hello? Excuse me?
What good does ostracizism do?
Is it going to make me nicer?
I hope not- I'm not afraid of you.

YOU destroyed my history!
YOU gave me your name!
YOU destroyed my integrity-
And you think I'm to blame?

No I'm not going to take it!
Be prepared- I'm going to fight.
Your bars may have entrapped me-
But I will regain MY rights.

I will not rest
Until my work is done!
Congress either heed my voice
Or reckon with my gun.

Never back me
A Black man into a corner-
Don't you people realize
That only makes me stronger?

Free but imprisoned
Loose but in chains
Your twisted, crooked system
Will never erase that felony from my name

I refuse to die like this
A rat searching a hole
It is only a matter of time
Before I regain control

Do what you can-
Destroy me as you may-
But be prepared for tomorrow-
For tomorrow is MY DAY!
