Daddy's Little Girl

by LaVerne N. Curtis

You were my first example of what a black man should be
Strength, tenacity
I looked upon you with admiration and pride
From sunup to sundown
You were class
Now that I’m older and know what life’s all about
I can see for myself
There is no doubt
We learn by example
We live to love
And if we’re lucky the man from above
Will shine on us
With wisdom and grace
Shelter us from harm
While learning our place
In this life
In this world
With hugs and kisses
