Promises of Pride

by Stephen Earley Jordan, II

I shall not prejudge,
for my ancestors told of prejudice
(and were)

I shall accept the unacceptable,
for the unacceptable may become the unpredictable
(and is)

I shall work for my earnings,
for I have learned that work brings good tidings
and fortunes
(and will)

I shall be my Self,
for my mother speaks
fhe words of her Self,
as I, too, am speaking of my Self
(are you?)
