The Same

by Lakesha Jenkins

My thoughts flow into the river of memory
Channeling my yesteryears
I see the eyes of the one who haunts me
Whisper softly in my ears
I am afraid…
Afraid to move forward and afraid to go back
Into a past that rushed me into a womanhood my mind could not grasp
Hands seek me in the darkness
I try to hide
I cannot escape
I hear my mind call out it was his fate
NO!
This cannot be
Death has no right to let this be
Taking everything…I have nothing left
What are horrid horrid circumstance
I sleep yet find I cannot rest
I feel your presence ..your energy
My arms open wide
You cannot hold me
You are gone….
Gone into the void of nothingness
All the moments wasted
Time I can never reclaim
Walking wounded knowing
Nothing will ever be the same
