Just Words

by Lakesha Jenkins-Applewhite

Baby I'm sorry you say
Promise it won't happen again
Second chance you say but you blew it
One more time let's begin this again
Something is happening inside me
(my mind blocks every word spoken out of your mouth)
We're barely holding on to being lovers,
now I find myself questioning: friend?
I take a deep breath and try to remember
what made me fall for you in the first place
I take a deep breath to gain some composure
Too much compromise turning love to hate
This time tomorrow I will be far away
NO longer is my will strong enough to make me stay
Away from you is my only decision to make
Away from all the promises you make only to break
All the I'll do betters that never happen
All the dreams you've turned into nightmares
No tears come as words fall on deaf ears
NO second chances or do overs for us
Not feeling your make it betters or I'll do rights
You've murdered the love once cherished and honored
with the accuracy of an assassin's bullet
Funeral time
May as well begin the procession
Just words are unable to bring me back
