Ground Zero

by Lakesha Jenkins

I have reached ground zero
Buildings crash & burn, emotions overload,
fuselage on fire, pain delivered before death's blow
the floor gives way, I tumble down
I scream but no one hears a sound
Angry masses run away
Misinformation circulates
I have reached ground zero
And now I'll never know the truth,
I'll never again get to hear the voices of my early youth
Blackened skies engulfed with smoke, disbelief, deserted hope
Anguished cries fill the air amid the speculation
of what the government does not say
The tv broadcasts people dying
Windows open, people flying
flailing,falling, faces unclear
Millions watch in horror, is the end here?
I have reached ground zero
the switchboard lights up
the sirens squeal
I see fire trucks
Its all surreal
But this is REAL
Twisted, wrenching, collapsing steel
explosions sounding some call it bombs
I have reached ground zero
Here nothing stands
It was torn asunder
Ripped to shreds, crashing, burning, falling down
All falls down
shaking the earth
shattering my faith
I have reached ground zero
And I'm all alone
