Could Not

by Lakesha Jenkins

I could not tell you if I tried….
The meaning you have brought with your presence in my life
I could not tell you if I tried….
The eruption of joy that causes my spirit to dance when your voice speaks my name
I could not tell you if I tried….
How many lonely nights I have lain awake praying for your safety when you were not beside me
I could not tell you if I tried….
The warmth that I feel when your arms wrap around me
I could not tell you if I tried….
How I see no future without you and I
I could not tell you if I tried….
The fear that grips me when you leave to go home
I could not tell you if I tried….
The doubt I experience every time you don’t answer your phone
I could not tell you if I tried….
How my body remembers your kiss, your taste, you touch long after you’re gone
I could not tell you if I tried….
The moral battle I fight between my mind and my heart
I could not tell you if I tried….
So many things my courage denies me when I make up my mind to say
That my home is your home
My heart where your heart belongs
Don’t leave…please stay…I want you to know
I could not tell you if I tried….
How it kills me to watch you leave each time you go
