Loneliness Like Cancer

by Lakesha Jenkins

Loneliness is a cancer that starts as a small lump then gradually spreads.
It stalks the well part of you, infecting you with a darkness that seems unbreakable.
By the time you start fighting back -its almost too late.
You find yourself making bargains & performing dirty deals
to slow its progress, stop its growth or even keep it at bay for a little while.
Always, loneliness persists....
It is the cancer of the soul
Infection of the spirit
Decimation of the once vibrant, thinking mind
Chemo wore cure it
Radiation makes it laugh
And all your pleas to it fall on death ears
It can't hear you
Or maybe the sound of your tears empowers it
It is fierce & ferocious & fast moving
Before long it has sealed your fate
Or you've sealed your fate
I guess its fate
I'm confused
Doesn't matter anyway
Once cancer, I mean loneliness, I mean cancer.
Loneliness like cancer moves in
Its there to stay
Always, Loneliness persists....
