These hands have never picked cotton
and the atrocities performed on my people I have not forgotten
When it is above 80 degrees
I drink water from any damn fountain I please
I don't bow my head and shuffle my feet just get along
I speak truth to power whenever it is wrong
Never afraid to look any adversary in the eye
because at this stage of life it's live free or die
Preparing to hand the torch of freedom over to our youth
with my last breath I will whisper to them the unspoken truth
My poetry plants prophetic seeds in hopes one day they will grow
and as written proof that-I Am Not Your Negro
