I have worn many hats and played many parts
and made numerous costume changes in my various roles
Sadly, first hand one day I will know "for whom the bell tolls"
until then I will cherish the good in a bad day if i have any smarts
In this lifetime, I have learn a few things
like the fact all 7 billion of us are flawed human beings
And when my back is against the wall
my best move is to drop my knees and pray to stand tall
that the written words of fools and sages
both begin on blank pages
And that in late spring
even in the heart of the ghetto-birds still beautifully sing
As outside, my window a cardinal's serenade heralds the beginning of the night
I am reminded all to soon, I will fight my final battle "against the dying of the light"
