I was created by God on the sixth day
Given power and dominion over the earth
A King!
I named the beast of the ground and the fowls of the air
Captured and taken from the Garden of Eden
Mother Africa
I lay in the belly of a slave ship
Human cargo
Surviving in the bowels hell
The living and the dead fastened together
Days and nights I prayed
God heard my prayer
A rib was taken as I slept
In the morning she was shackled to my side
My salvation
And God created the Black woman
We toiled in the fields
The backbone of a capitalist expansion
Helplessly, I watched her raped
Her spirit unbroken
She possessed a strength that could not be measured
Tears from her eyes healed the wounds from my beatings
Mother of great leaders, DuBois, Garvey, King, and Malcolm
She was the true solider of marches and boycotts
When I doubted my abilities
Her encouragement pushed me to excel
As the illusion of freedom became within my grasp
I betrayed her
Biting of the fruit of equality
A Lie
I abandon her
Cheated on her
Beat her
Forgetting the sacrifices she made for me
Now weaken by my own foolishness
No longer a King
Imprisoned
Strung out
A murder of black men
Endangered
She is the hope of my people!
A Queen!
Although, I betrayed her trust
She continues to love me
Unconditionally!
Bone of my bone
Flesh of my flesh
Soul of my soul
Love of my love
A black woman
