That’s the Way of the World

by Trina Williams-Emigh

I am intoxicated by awareness
Existing to convey
Endless ruminations
Ideas
Concepts
Theories
Wisdom
I sit on the periphery of reality
Observing all
Extolling nature
Condemning man
Money and power – fuel
Death and destruction – payment
I think we forget that for some
Life is long
Decades…
Sometimes even centuries
And Mankind treats life as if it is expendable
Like it comes with a money back guarantee
The innocence of children is no longer lost – but stolen
And to be a woman - is to be the blame
Man holds counsel over all
Yet denies responsibility
Society is exploding with stupidity
And gorged with racist division
Government is infantile
And possibility seems mute
We stand at the center of the universe
And since forever now,
Have yet…
To learn what humanity really means
The longer I live,
The less I want to
Few things give me peace anymore
And I should not have to wait until I die – to find it
Even religion has lost its way
And to all you prophet’s of “end of days”
Funny how though touting this, you haven’t changed your ways
