Went down to N’Awlins (uh ummm)
Things’ll never be the same
Said I went down to N’Awlins (Lordy)
And things’ll never be the same
The cities in shambles
Lost its mojo
Despite its name
Though its rhythm was once strong
My city no longer sings its song
It has lost its claim
The streets no longer bear their name
Empty homes
And abandoned cars
Litter scattered about the yards
No music playing
Singing has ceased
For all of its people…have lost their peace
And stories tell
Of tragic days
Memories lost in aired displays
Of death we witnessed
And fear we cried
For its atrocities cannot be denied
Went down to N’Awlins (uh ummm)
Things’ll never be the same
Said I went down to N’Awlins (Lordy)
And things’ll never be the same
The cities in shambles
Who but the Government’s
The one to blame
Today is the day after
Yesterday was the day before
And still my people long to reach their familiar door
New place
New shoes
New home
Yet still the blues
For the roots have been severed
And its branches are tethered
To another faith
No hope
No plan
No solution
Yet it will still stand
And though once its rhythm was strong
My city no longer
………….sings
…………..its
…………..song
Went down to N’Awlins (uh ummm)
Things’ll never be the same
Said I went down to N’Awlins (Lordy)
And things’ll never be the same
The cities in shambles
Lost its mojo
Despite its name
