Natural Woman

by Trina Williams-Emigh

I am the woman who bore you a nation.
I am the woman who nurtured you at my bosom,
And taught you at my feet.

I am the woman who was stripped bare,
And trampled upon.
Whose babies were stolen from my arms.

I am the woman who embraced you and held on like glue,
Keeping our people together through and through.
I am the woman who mourns your lost and comforts your tears

I am the woman who crossed the ocean,
And swam the sea.
Who stood before the man and fought for you to be free.

I am the woman whom you now slander and shame.
Whom you batter and abuse.
Whom you cause such overwhelming pain.

I am the woman whom you now turn your back on.
Have you no respect?
Have you no shame?
To disregard the woman from whence you came.
Your soul.........
Your being........
Your existence......you see,
You are solely,..... Because of me.
