The Movement

by Trina Williams-Emigh

I can't speak on how it was
I've only read about it, never experienced it
I can't speak on how they should have handled it
I can't speak on what they should have let slide
I can't say that I could have done it
I probably would have died
I can't say that I knew what they were feeling
I can't say that I really knew their pain
But what I can say is that their courage
spawned a movement that grew into a chain
a movement for change
a movement for equality
a movement for justice
a movement for self, and soul.........and me
