Guilty As Charged

by Trina Williams-Emigh

What the hell have we taught you
society has done you a grave injustice
your pampered
spoiled
catered to
given choices we never had
see things openly, that we had to hide
somehow our decision to be honest with you
has gone wrong
we've pushed the envelope too far, and too hard
your emulate what you see
we gave you too much
too soon
forgetting that you are a child
and now you pay us back with violence as your thank you
and death as your appreciation
were the guilty ones
guilty as charged
we put the weapon in your hand
and blood on your mind
whispered death into your ear
and injected violence into your veins
now you've shared it like a disease
that seems to have no cure
