Civil Right

by Trina Williams-Emigh

You offered me nothing
so I not only asked, but marched for it
I not only pressured you, but fought for it
what I have, I deserve
where I am, I mean to preserve
who you are, doesn't matter
and what you want, I intend to shatter
I'm still on the move
It's my Civil Right to disapprove
of the fact that change has ceased
and hate crimes increased
by any means necessary
I demand
a peaceful existence
between each and every man
