Birth of a Nation

by Gaptoothbrotha & Trina Williams-Emigh

The trouble with blackness
is that it never hides
they see you coming
long before you arrive
.....Somehow they smelled you
Or tasted you on the air
And your secret was out
before you even knew you had one
But quickly, they locked it away
Then cunningly stole your station
Denying you the knowledge of
.....The birth of a nation

The trouble with blackness
is that it's not loved
gleaming in the sun
ebony gold
reminds everyone
that we were bought and sold
hung from trees
burned at the stake
our blackness
reminds them of their hate
we built great civilizations
God's first creation
our blood, sweat, and agony
birth this nation!!
