Another Tear In the Ocean

by Eden Bryant

A man falls to his knees at the shore of rough seas
Begs water to show mercy, pleading, compassion please.
He prays they have survived, prays they're still alive
He weeps another tear in the ocean,
another tear in the ocean
Shed for what he loves.

Ridding himself of a notion called pride
Abandoned, he searches for the fruit of his tribe
Lamenting the power of water,
looking for his namesake and daughter
Watches helplessly as waves cut like a knife,
fearing the loss of young life,
He weeps another tear in the ocean,
another tear in the ocean
shed for what he loves.

Their tiny bodies pulled to shore,
Life loses the meaning it once held

... before

A part of his soul is forever left there in the sand
He falls, stricken with grief, moaning in disbelief
Cursing the sea, once friend, now a thief
He weeps another tear in the ocean
Another tear in the ocean
Shed for what he's lost.

Questioning his faith

Where, o' where is that amazing grace?
Water, art Thou friend or foe?!?!?!

Even the most wise don't know
Devastated in his demanding,

Void of understanding...

He weeps another tear in the ocean
Shed for what he has lost, shed for what he has lost
And leaves another tear in the ocean.
