My Black Knight

by Deja' Rae

Look at him my strong and fearless black knight,
Wearing his armor of the body and soul,
puffed up for his daily fight.
Each day he has to fight because of who he is,
He does it thoughtlessly and without shedding a tear.
When the black and white car follows him along,
He shakes his head and continues on.
Even when he gets to work and is told,
the job he wanted was given to another,
And his boss says keep doing a good job;
I’ll look out for you brother.
Even when he goes to lunch and waits a half hour for a table,
Because of who he is and what he had been labeled.
Even when the clerk shadows him through the store,
Making him feel like an animal being hunted;
he’s almost tempted to say NO MORE!
But he inhales deeply, clenches his teeth and says not a word,
He closes his eyes and smiles remembering whom he serves.

In the blink of an eye my black knight became my champion,
The champion of my soul,
He redeemed it and made me whole,
In the blink of an eye my black knight became my champion,
The champion of my heart,
He captured it and held on, he gave it a jump start,
And for that I thank GOD.

My, my wonderful dark warrior, my soul mate,
I like the way you push on,
You push on through the world and it’s cesspool of nonsense,
You never show anger from that kind of intelligence,
You push on through those fabricated excuses,
That are all derived out of an opaque mind
that’s deceitful and polluted.
You push on through the aged and corroded walls of injustice,
You know... the walls that are carved in blood that reads, JUST US,
You push on my warrior for you wear the correct armor.
You know... God’s breastplate covers your heart
and you wear it with great honor.
Gone on my strong black knight,
you dark, intelligent and handsome champion,
I have the perfect place for you,
it’s right here in my heart, the place you call your home.
