Forever Your Loving Protector

by Juwan T. Dickerson & DBryant

On a lush African grassland under the warm Nigerian sun
Sitting on the brown earth
Holding our daughter in my arms
As I watched you wade in the river
Cooling off your tired body
In all your Nubian beauty
Being hypnotized by your elegant splendor
Gazing at the sunlight shimmering off your dark bronze skin
And the light misty beads of water nestled in your dreads
Basking in your exquisite glory
I kiss our daughter on the forehead cause you're her mother

Loud thunderous noises in the village
Screams, cries, and strange yelling break the scene
Foreign creatures come out of the bushes pointing strange weapons at us
I stand in front of you and our young seedling to protect you
A loud bang, a flash of light, then a sharp deep burning pain in my
chest

I lay on the ground, my life quickly bleeding away
I hear our daughter s cries and see the devils dragging you away
screaming my name
I look into your tear filled eyes and whisper my last words to you in
our native tongue
'I Love You'

On a southern plantation under the hot Alabama sun
In a wide cotton field
Dragging a horse plow that s tied around my neck
I watch you
Holding our daughter in one hand and picking the slave crop with the
other
Your miserable exhausted body about to give out
I see the weary expression on your beautiful face
Then I see you fall helplessly to the earth
I break the leather strap from my neck and I run to you

But before I can make it an enslaver fires a round steel projectile in
my back
I lay two feet away from you with tears coming from both our eyes and
our child crying
And as me blood leaks from my back I whisper my final words to you and
our daughter
'I Love You'

On a stage under the bright lights in our headquarters Speaking words of
freedom, pride, unity, and Revolution!!!
I watch you
As you hold our daughter tightly in your lap
Looking at your beautiful Black majesty
In the front row proud with your big fro and fist pick
Fist held high in the air shoutin' with the speaker
Black Power, Black Power, Black Power

A tire screech, broken glass, erupting flames, gunshots, mass confusion
I jump off the stage to get you and our child to safety
I pull you out and in all the confusion I fall, not realizing that I
caught one in the chest
And as you hold me in your arms crying, knowing that I must leave you
yet again
I look up at your tear filled eyes and breathe my final word to you
'I Love You'

On the road of life under the light of wisdom
Walking to peace, prosperity and salvation
Reminiscing of all my past life's memories of you
The many times I died trying to protect you and keep you safe
So that you and our little legacy can live on and survive
I search
A lone man searching for his one true Queen to love, honor and protect
against all odds

To cultivate a new legacy for the future
Our greatest creation
A Strong Black Generation
I'll search until I find you
And I promise that I will let you know that I'll love you and protect
you every single day
As if it were my last

*****

I watched that day, my life die before me,
My King, Powerful in mind, and strong in body,
Stripped away as the last words he mouths are
'I love you'
I pray in our native tongue that we die with him
But I will live on through him
For him is me I am he and we are Thee

Yes, I see'd you that day
Watchin' us like you was, wishin' you could take away this pain
I drop ta my knees and pray ta Gaud ta save us
From this here bondage, ta save us from that there Massa
I hear'd thunda and thought the Laud done hear'd my pray,
When I see'd you fall and your back red with the blood you bleed.
In the dust I sees you sayin'
'I love you'
And I wanna die too
But 'stead, I live on through him
For him is me I am he and we are Thee

I remember that day, when you was watching us watch you
Me and your daughter, we are proud
To see you teach our people how to free themselves
>From the mental jail they're in
To see you feel the power for our people
Then we hear the commotion, the tires roaring, the glass breaking and
the fire
In the shouting I hear gunfire
And then once again we see you dying for us
'I love you,' you say
'Hush now,' I say as I sing you to your final sleep
But this time we will live for you to continue the struggle which you
wholeheartedly died by for us
'See...' I tell my child
'We will live for him'
'For him is me we are him and we are Thee'

On the road of life under the light of wisdom
Walking to peace, prosperity and salvation
Reminiscing of all my past life's memories of you
The many times that you died trying to protect me and our child
So that I and the legacy that you created can live on and survive
I search
A lone woman searching for her one True King to love, honor and cherish
against all odds

To cultivate a new legacy for the future
Our greatest creation
A Strong Black Generation
I'll search until I find you
And I promise that I will let you know that I'll love you and protect
you every single day
As if it were our last
