My Turtledove

by Juan Antonio Cordova

A turtledove stood by the golden portal of my heart:
!Please come in!

Winter has passed; the snow has turned to babbling brooks
and the northern gentle breeze is a delight.

A Turtledove stood by the golden portal of my heart:
!Please come in!

I longed to see you; hold you near me,my dove.
Spring is here and the meadows are arrayed in
green with a necklace of diverse colors:
!Please come in!

A Turtledove has stood by the golden portal of my heart;
she's cooing besides me as she places a silver
flower upon my heart: !Please shut the door!

I dedicate this poem to my beloved Laura
faithful companion for 23 short years.
