The Root

by Darrell Collins

Many branches are born from the root of the tree.
Each branch, when combined, becomes a family.
Not a one stands alone, nor will its seeds ever grow.
For, that branch will break off when the hard winds blow.

The Root is the source that feeds each and every branch.
Embedded deep within the soil; giving each seed a chance.
When the branches are nourished, the seeds will be, too.
Branches pass along genes, so seeds know what to do.

Remember both branches and seeds are derived from the Root.
And, no matter where we may live, our separation is mute.
Although, our seeds may now cover every corner of the globe,
history points us all back to a place we all know.

So, wherever we may go, or how high we might climb,
don’t forget the Masterpiece, we call our family line.
There will be seeds we don’t know, and some that’s grown apart.
But, we all must give love and respect to the family’s Matriarch.
