Black Man

by C Michelle the Purple Poet

I'll never know how it feels to be a Black Man
Black Man, Black Son, Black Husband, Black Father
Black Lover, Black Leader, Black Brother
Now I know you in the biblical sense
But do I really KNOW you
Your struggles with identity and pride they make up who you are inside
The way you love, the way I feel when you love me
Your dark brown skin, dark like the night
So dark, so hot like black coffee no cream
Black Man: my security, my rock, created in the image of God, but merely a man
A Black Man, Black King, my Nubian Prince
Black hands so strong and powerful, yet gentle enough to caress my back
Black Love with a Black Man
Your heart wants to love. Your mind sometimes deep in thought
God created him. God created her. God created them
Black Man; skin like burnt brass, hair as lamb's wool
Created in the image of God, yes a Real Man, a Black Man
