Lonely

by Chereen Fredericks

If I say I'm lonely will you say I'm not that strong?
If I say I'm lonely will you tell me that my feelings are wrong?

If I say I'm lonely and I want a man,
does that mean I'm not a strong Black women doing the best I can?

If I say I'm lonely and I need a lover's touch,
will you say I'm thinking about this to much?

Can I say I'm lonely and I miss romance,
can I tell you I'm lonely and want to give love another chance?

If I say I'm lonely and it keeps me awake at night,
will you tell everything's gonna be alright?

Can I tell you I'm lonely and need someone to nurture my heart?
Can I say I'm lonely and have been from the very start?

If I say I'm lonely and fearful marriage bells won't ring,
will you say real love isn't everything?

Can I say I'm lonely and being a mother doesn't fulfill all of me?
Can I say I'm lonely and afraid a baby's momma is all I'll ever be?
